Tres
player, Juan De Marcos Gonzalez, is an important
Latin musician who plays in the Son tradition.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Juan studied guitar at the
Havana Music Academy. While attending university,
he formed the band Sierra Maestra, and spent fifteen
years with them. Juan is the founder of the Buena
Vista Social Club as well as the leader of The
Afro-Cuban Allstars.
On
May 01, 2001, I had the pleasure of having dinner
with Juan in New York City. We took photographs
in Times Square and later went to see Johnny
Almendra and Los Jovenes Del Barrio perform.
Juan
has unlimited energy and appears all over the
world accompanied by his wife, Gliceria. Juan
credits her for making his career such a success
and for her behind-the-scenes efforts.
An
exclusive congahead.com gallery features Juan
de Marcos Gonzalez on the town in New York City.
