Colombian
and Cuban drummer David Gomez is in
the forefront of the next generation
of great performers in contemporary
music. Already he has established himself
as the youngest master bata drummer
in NYC. His break through and pioneering
works with the Cuban Bata drums and
their application to the drum-set and
timbal are setting the standard for
generations to come. He is the leading
voice of the simultaneous playing of
all three bata drums worldwide.
In
2002 just shy of his 21st birthday
he relocated to Havana, Cuba where
he worked and collaborated with the
next generation of Cuban jazz musicians
as well as research to forward his knowledge for his upcoming book on
the history of the sacred bata drums and their application into contemporary
music.
In 2005 back from Havana, Cuba, David has toured, recorded and/or
performed along side legendary Platinum artists such as Richard Muller,
Alci Acosta, Lisandro Meza, Charlie Zaa as well as famed Latin Jazz musicians
such as Dave Valentin, Ray Vega, Anthony Jackson, Hiram Bullok, Will
Lee, John Santos, Wilson Chembo Corniel,
Jay Rodriguez, Groove Collective, Stanley
Banks of George Benson and Edy Martinez among others. Also with folkloric
Cuban ensembles in New York City such
as: Oriki Omi Odara and Roman Diaz.
David
is currently the house drummer for the
international Caliente Entertainment
Company in N.Y.C. He recently has been
seen performing in legendary N.Y. venues
such as Madison Square Garden, The Blue
Note, Fat Cat, Alice Tully Hall and the
Lincoln Center Jazz “Dizzy’s
Coca Cola Lounge” David is an active
lecturer and clinician worldwide and is a proud endorser of the Worldwide
