On May 6, 2005 The
Tito Puente
Orchestra reunited for the second time in
nearly four years to perform a tribute concert to the King of Latin Music at Lehman College in
the Bronx. The driving force behind this event was Bob Sancho, a director at Bronx Lebanon
Hospital.
In addition to the Tito Puente Orchestra, which featured the
timbale
and vibe talents of Tito's son Ron, there was a Latin Jazz band made up of Dave Valentin on
flute; Hilton Ruiz on piano; Andy Gonzalez on bass; Piro Rodriguez and Claudio Roditi on trumpet;
Papo Vazquez on trombone; and Nicky Marrero on timbales, with special invited guests LP®
endorser Giovanni Hidalgo
on congas
and Paquito D'Rivera
on sax and clarinet. The singers were Frankie Morales and Frankie Vazquez.
