Asia 2005

On December 18, 2004, my family and I left for our annual trip to Asia. On our first stop we visited the LP® factory and got to see the progress with the new facility that sets us apart as the biggest percussion factory in the world. It never ceases to amaze me how this facility has grown over the 25 years we have worked together. We've never given them a manufacturing challenge that they couldn't meet.

We left Thailand for Penang, Malaysia where we almost became victims of the deadly tsunami. We are so grateful we were spared. Ironically, we also had planned to visit Phuket, Thailand -- where there was substantial loss of life -- but were unable to get a flight.

From Penang we went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to see our friend Steve Thornton and his family. There are always great moments of music in Kuala Lumpur but this year the government cancelled the scheduled New Year's Eve concert at the Petronis twin towers. However, we did have a truly incredible Chinese meal with the kind people of Bentley Music.

All too soon we had to begin the long journey home by way of Singapore where we made a new friend, drummer Mohamed Noor.
