On
Sunday, June 03, 2001, WBAI 99.5 FM, a non-commercial
radio station in New York City, held a tribute
to commemorate the first year anniversary of the
passing of Tito
Puente.
Nancy Rodriguez assembled an all-star line-up
of musicians to honor the memory of Tito Puente.
Those who participated included Little
Johnny Rivero, Jimmy
Delgado, Nicky Marerro, Reynaldo Jorge, Luis
Orbegoso, Willie Villegas, Sonny Bravo, George
Delgado, Jose
Mangual, Jr., and Abbey Navarez.
Tito Puente, known as the "King of Latin Music",
was responsible for making timbales a solo instrument
in Latin music. Though Tito is no longer with
us, his music will live on in the hearts of music
fans all over the world.
