I
recently visited London to meet with various LP
artists and to attend a percussion celebration
held by Arbiter, our new UK distributor. Percussionist
Karl
Vanden Bossche organized a recording session
on March 9, which included Thomas
Dyani, Lekán Babololá, and Satin
Singh. The resulting track will be part of the
upcoming 2003 LP
Holiday CD.

Karl
is currently working with Blur, the successful
British recording artists, while Thomas maintains
a busy recording schedule, and performs with
the London Company of the Lion King. Satin,
an in demand percussionist and first call
conguero, often plays with Pucho Brown when
he is in London, and Lekán is involved
with the cultural connections between his
native Nigeria and the Santeria of Cuba. |
The voice you will hear on these recordings is
that of Lekán. Sample1

LP’s
Executive Vice President David McAllister, and
LP’s Sales Director Angelo Arimborgo and
I visited Arbiter’s Day of Percussion, held
at Brent Cross Banqueting Center in North London,
on March 11. I am confident that Arbiter’s
support and expertise will greatly assist with
LP’s market penetration in the UK.
Santana percussionists, Karl
Perazzo and Raul
Rekow, performed at the event, demonstrating
LP
instruments and entertaining the crowd.
| Another
LP endorser, friend, and popular British performer,
Robin
Jones, was also featured. Robin, who for
twenty years has educated numerous aspiring
young percussionists, unfortunately suffered
several heart attacks, and underwent numerous
major surgeries in 2002. Although this was
Robin’s first public appearance since
his illness, his performance was triumphant,
and he deserves to be congratulated. |
